As athletes mature the mental aspect of sports performance continues to grow exponentially while the physical development begins to level off. Mental training is a key component to continued growth and improved performance for Ringette athletes. Mental training will be provided by Mindbuffs either through online or in person a minimum of 6 times over the course of the season.
The following are key elements forming the foundational cornerstones for the training:
Confidence comes from self awareness and belief in our skills. It’s the start point for all other skills needed to perform at high levels. Athletes who lack confidence often struggle with performance anxiety, low self esteem and fall short of maximizing their performance level.
It doesn't matter how much time you spend training or practicing — if you're unable to focus on what you're doing, then all your hard work and level of play may be affected. Sports psychologists teach mental skills that athletes can use to train their minds to stay focused when they need it most.
All athletes must learn how to bounce back from adversity. Failure is part of every game - but the ability to bounce back from mistakes can make the difference between losing and winning. Learning to deal with setbacks and errors without losing their motivation for playing Ringette or being a member of a team is a huge component in building mental resilience for sports and life performance.
Many athletes struggle to achieve peak performance due to performance anxiety. They might worry that a mistake or poor play will cost the game or what the coach or other players might think of them. Sport psychology can help athletes overcome this type of anxiety by understanding how it works and how to control it.
