  • For advanced plannings, players should expect to have AA tryouts including but not limited to Sunday, August 24th to Saturday, August 30th.
  • Our tryout ice schedule will be posted later in August. Once posted, please refer to the schedule for your possible dates, times, and locations.
  • NOTE: The schedule is subject to change, so please check back regularly to Evaluations Tab of SGRA website.
  • After tryout registration closes and just prior to the start of tryout sessions, the specific ice times will be emailed to you by the SGRA Division Directors or the 3rd party Evaluators.

 AA TRYOUT FORMAT

  • During tryout sessions, players will potentially participate in drills, scrimmages, and games.
  • Players are given equal opportunity to demonstrate their skills in skating, ring control, ringette sense, knowledge of the game, competitive drive, and teamwork.
    • All U14, U16 and U19 athletes will have a minimum of 2 tryout ice times in the first round.
    • U14 athletes skate will include the Universal Athlete Assessment (UAA) testing.
  • After the first round of ice times, prospective AA athletes will be selected to move forward to the second round of tryout ice times.
  • Those athletes selected to move to the second round will be emailed Division Director or 3rd party Evaluators.
    • U14 athletes selected to the second round will proceed to the Ringette Alberta Centralized evaluations (info below).
    • U16 & U19 athletes selected to the second round will continue with SGRA process.

AA PROGRAM COORDINATOR & DIVISION DIRECTORS

There will be some opportunities to ask questions of the AA Program Coordinator and Division Directors during tryouts. Division Directors will be available at the arenas. We respectfully request that questions be directed to the Division Directors and not the Coaches or Evaluators during this process.

Ringette Alberta U14AA Centralized Evaluations Information

The Ringette Associations across the Capital Region are excited to introduce a new and improved process for selecting players for U14AA teams next season.

What’s Changing?

For the 2025-2026 season, Associations are working together to make the evaluation process more consistent and fair across the board. This means:

  • All players will have the same opportunity to be evaluated, no matter which association they belong to.
  • Players will be placed at the tier that best matches their skill level.
  • Everyone will try out through one streamlined AA evaluation process and be seen by all participating Associations.

How Will It Work?

  • Players register for AA Evaluations with their home Association.  Non-host Association players register with their primary choice host AA Association.
  • During registration, players can also indicate other AA teams, if any, they’d be open to playing for.
  • Each host AA Association will run 2-3 evaluation skates and UAA testing between August 21-27.
  • From there, approximately 20 AA-ready players per host Association will be invited to Centralized Evaluations from August 28-30.

Here’s how the Centralized Evaluations will run:

    • Athletes chosen to move forward with the Centralized Evaluation will participate in 3 additional skates.
    • After Skate 1, Coaches can “protect” players from their own host evaluations that they have selected for their team.
    • Skates 2 and 3, Coaches will receive a list of available players who have indicated a willingness to play for their Association, who were not ‘protected’ by their Host Association.
  • Only coaches and the AA Evaluation Oversight Committee will know who is protected/unprotected—this info won't be shared with families.
  • Coaches will build their final rosters based on the available unprotected player pool (Host Association athletes or those who indicated a willingness to play).

We’re looking forward to this exciting new chapter for AA Ringette in our region.
